How to Pack for a Portable Storage Container

Moving is often of the most stressful things a person can do, let alone expensive. More often than not, people will tend to gravitate towards moving services and or moving trucks, but this no doubt comes at a very steep price. Portable Storage Containers are today one of the most efficient and cost-effective alternatives. However, your savings won’t matter if you don’t securely pack your storage pod. Here are our top 4 tips to properly packing your Portable storage container.

Tip #4: Proper Packaging

One of the most overlooked steps when properly packing your container is how you essentially prepare your things. We highly advise using the same size box for all of your items, as much as it is possible. This will allow you to place your contents into the container in a way that won’t cause shifting and breaking during the duration of your travel. In addition, it is best to strengthen your boxes by adding additional tape to the top and bottom.

Tip #3: Build A Foundation

We spoke earlier about the importance of having properly fitted boxes, but what you should also keep in mind is the importance of a strong foundation. The best method is to pack your items from floor to ceiling in order to create a strong foundation for heavier boxes. In addition to a strong foundation, having evenly distributed weight is a must for these pods. This can be accomplished by filling up your container from side to side and placing the heaviest object in the middle of your container.

Tip #2: Invest in Cushions and Bubble Wrap

Certain things should never go in a container, such as family heirlooms and legal documents. However, for less valuable but fragile objects, your best bet to keep them safe is to invest in bubble wraps and other forms of cushions. What goes wrapped? Anything involving glass such as mirrors and televisions sets. If you don’t have access to these items, a great alternative is to simply place your large blankets on top of them.

Tip #1 Avoiding Mold and Mildew

One of the common mistakes people make when transporting their belongings across large distances is forgetting to protect them from mold and mildew. This is often caused by extreme changes in climate such as from going from an arid climate to a cold one within a span of a few hours. This can be easily prevented by picking up moisture absorbers at your local store.

There will always be a risk when transporting your belongings from one location to another. However, taking the proper steps to organize your container can help prevent as many issues as possible. We hope that our tips have helped you become a little more informed about the moving process, with that we say safe travels.
