5 Beneficial Foods to Eat During the HCG Diet

In order to achieve weight loss on the HCG diet, you must understand the types of food allowed. The foods you can eat while on an HCG diet are chosen according to their sugar, fat, and carbohydrate content. While the food list for the HCG diet is restrictive, that does not mean the foods you eat have to be bland. You are free to use generous amounts of seasonings to spice up your diet.

Keep in mind, during all of the HCG diet phases, you can not drink alcohol; alcoholic beverages neutralize the efficacy of HCG. Soft drinks are also not recommended. If you must sweeten your tea or coffee, use stevia.

  • You must drink a minimum of 2 ½ quarts of water every day.
  • Unsweetened tea, no cream
  • Unsweetened coffee, no cream

Lean Proteins

Most of your calories while on the HCG diet should come from very lean protein. This can include:

  • Whitefish
  • White meat poultry
  • Shellfish such as lobster, shrimp, scallops and crab
  • Egg whites
  • Very lean red beef or buffalo meat
  • Veal is also an excellent choice while on the HCG diet.

You can have 7 ounces of lean proteins per day. Evenly divide the 7 ounces of protein between lunch and dinner. Weigh your meat portions before cooking, then trim off any visible fat and either broil or grill without using any fats or oils.

Low-Calorie Vegetables

You can also have one cup of a low-calorie vegetable during both lunch and dinner. Good choices include:

  • Green Salads
  • Onions
  • Celery
  • Asparagus
  • Spinach
  • Broccoli
  • Fennel
  • Chard
  • Cauliflower
  • Cabbage
  • Shallots
  • Tomatoes
  • Cucumbers
  • Radishes
  • Beet Greens

Low-Calorie Fruits

One to two servings of low-calorie fruit is allowed per day. Good fruit choices include:

  • Citrus fruits, like grapefruit, lemons, and oranges
  • Apples
  • Berries, such as strawberries, raspberries, and blueberries

Low-Calorie Carbs

During lunch and dinner, you may also have one breadstick, cracker or a piece of Melba toast.

The HCG Diet is Easier Than Think

While the HCG diet seems intimidating with the short list of allowed foods and very restrictive calorie intake, it’s changed a lot since it first began in the 1950s. With the introduction of new flavors to the American diet, the food choices can be tastier than ever. Feel free to be creative with new recipes and flavors. Any diet is meant to help you change bad eating habits, and develop healthy new habits and perspectives on food.
